Light is the first word spoken by God: “Let there be light!” (Gen 1:3).
It enlightens the Earth with its creatures and makes it visible to our eyes in its immense beauty.
It is God’s light that transforms us into lamps to brighten up the world. If in the night of the poor, the migrant, the suffering, the prisoner, the persecuted, if in the night of all living beings exploited and subjected to violence, we stretch out our hand and offer support, then we spread light (LS221). The light of change sweeps away the veil tarnishing the starry sky, the mountain peaks, the depths of the sea, and the human heart.
