Francis of Assisi dedicated a praise to the Earth, our common home: «Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth, which sustains and governs us, and produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs» (Canticle of Creatures, Franciscan Sources 263). The common home is not only a place, but also “a sister, with whom we share our life, and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to embrace us” (LS 1). And as such, it must be cherished and respected, adorned and honored, so as to remain everyone’s home.
